When it comes to planning your family photoshoot, it's important to be realistic about your schedule and not let milestones slip by without taking the time to capture them. With busy schedules and the demands of parenting, it's all too easy for planned photoshoots to be delayed or forgotten. So if you're considering a family photoshoot, it's best to schedule it sooner rather than later.

Time of day is everything
The time of day and season are important factors to consider when taking photographs. For new babies and toddlers, early morning often works best, while for primary school-age children and above, later in the afternoon or sunset can be more preferred.
Choosing the right time can ensure your children are more relaxed and cooperative, while the light can be magical.
Ultimately, selecting the best time of day for your photo shoot can make a big difference in the final outcome of your images
Seasons...
Summer is a popular time to photograph (especially at the beach) however it does mean very early starts (think 6am for beach) and even later finishes, not to mention the crowds..however if you're looking at doing this in time for Christmas might be good to note that we start our Christmas season in October and finish halfway though December.
The shoulder seasons work really well if you prefer less crowds and (depending on children's ages) can. be more suitable starting times. Think how it may be more workable to start a sunrise shoot at 8am or fit a sunset beach shoot in after school at 4pm?
Considering daylight savings and your family general timetable will really help decide what will work best for you.
However if you are reading this I would consider what times are best within 6-8 weeks (don't wait a whole 3 seasons to plan)
Winter, why would anyone choose winter I hear you ask ?
In all honesty, its my personal favourite time to shoot of the year, the tones and colours are unmatched to any other time. the light is very soft and cool.
Layering up always elevates a shoot, In winter you can add texture, chunky knits etc. The hours are also very workable think around 9am to 3.30pm. - good to note none of these images were shot in summer and 2 of them were shot in winter.. can you guess which ones?
